After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Limerick, he undertook his PhD studies there focusing on the study of the thermal environment in enclosed cavities. This was applied to thermal management of aircraft avionics compartments as part of the FP7-funded MAAXIMUS project with a focus on.
He has completed two post-doctoral positions, one at UL investigating the thermal performance of air-cooled condensers, and a second for 2 years at the Institut National Polytechnique at the University of Toulouse, studying mass transfer in two-phase flows.
His research interests include thermal management, experimental fluid mechanics measurement techniques and additive manufacturing.
