Hazel Murray is a PhD researcher under the supervision of Dr David Malone at CONNECT in Maynooth University.
Hazel received her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from Maynooth University in 2016. Her PhD topic aims to Improve authentication via a better understanding of Password Use and Abuse.
She is interested in modelling password guessing, evaluating authentication security advice and quantifying the costs and benefits of authentication policies for users and organisations.
With the development of the Internet of Things and the increasing use of technology in our everyday life, our current authentication methods are at breaking point. Standards agencies, companies and specialists continuously release standards in relation to authentication, yet there is little to no research verifying the effectiveness of these policies. Hazel is attempting to collate an overview of the current advice being distributed, identify discrepancies and irregularities in this advice, and identify the associated costs and benefits with each piece of advice.
Hazel is currently an IRC GOI Scholar.
