Jerry Horgan is a CONNECT researcher at TSSG at Waterford Institute of Technology where he leads the TSSG infrastructure team and manages the TSSG Data Centre.
He has over 15 years of expertise in systems and network administration and holds a BSc in Computer Science, an MSc in Communications Software Development, an MSc in IT Management. He also holds a number of industrial qualifications including Cisco’s CCNA and CCNP.
His work in the TSSG has concentrated on Data Centre management, network management, service provisioning, and the development of multiple research testbeds. He developed the architecture for production infrastructures of many of TSSG’s spin-outs including FeedHenry (now RedHat Mobile) and Muzu, highlighting a passion for designing large scalable infrastructures.
Jerry has worked on a range of networking topics on EI, EU, and InterReg projects ranging from VPN concentrators, to Intrusion Dections Systems, to rollouts of IPv6 networks, as well as Community WiFi deployments and new networks / protocols such as IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and a variety of experimental network protocols.
Jerry’s work has a current focus on Software Defined Infrastructure and Hyper Scale Systems both of which blur the lines between hardware and software systems through the automation and orchestration of compute, network, and storage resources at both the service and management layer. This is coupled with an emphasis on reusability, scalability, security and performance.
