Tony Fagan

Funded Investigator

Professor Anthony (Tony) D. Fagan is a CONNECT Funded Investigator at University College Dublin.

He received the PhD degree from University College Dublin in 1978. He was a research engineer at Marconi Research Laboratories, in Essex from 1977 to 1980 where he worked on digital signal processing (DSP) for advanced communication systems. In 1980 he took up a position as a lecturer in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at UCD where he established the DSP Research Group. The group carries out a balanced mix of theoretical and applied research in the areas of digital communications (wireline and wireless), speech and audio processing, image processing, pattern recognition and biomedical signal processing.

Professor Fagan is a reviewer for many international journals and conferences.  He is a member of the editorial board of the journal Digital Signal Processing published by Elsevier.  On behalf of the European Commission he has acted as a technical auditor of mobile communications projects in several Framework Programmes. He has been instrumental in establishing a number of Irish companies that carry out work at the highest level in this area and he is widely consulted by many international communication companies.
