Akbar Majidi is a CONNECT Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin.
Currently, Dr Akbar is working as a Research Fellow with the CONNECT/Enable Research Programme at Trinity College Dublin (TCD), on network edge problems. His recent publication in IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking can be proudly regarded as proof of solving one of the most unsolvable problems in the world, reducing 45% latency in data centers! It took 5 years (2 years of writing and 3 years of under review) of hard work to solve and publish at IEEE/ACM ToN and he wrote more than 200 pages of revisions. He also published a paper at IEEE INFOCOM 2023 – about “Time-Varying Real-Time Online Multi-Resource Allocation for Scaling the Slices and VNF Isolation”.
Before this role, he was a Network Engineer at Huawei Technologies Ireland. He worked in all aspects of networks from delivery of new devices/switches to maintaining and operating all data centers across Europe. His main responsibility was to deploy and configure the latest firewall requests.
Prior to that, he was a Research & Development Engineer at iMAR in MTU Kerry, Ireland. He was responsible for managing and assisting Irish companies with deploying or managing their teams.
Moreover, he worked as a scientific researcher (Postdoc) at University College Cork (UCC), Ireland to solve and optimize omnidirectional video streaming (AR-VR) over the cellular network for Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and his proposed method was published in the IEEE International Conference on Network Protocols (ICNP) 2020.
In addition, he worked for the 6g Mobile research lab in Prague to help solve complex problems of vehicular edge computing projects for Škoda Auto. Furthermore, he was a lecturer at Griffith College Cork for a year teaching a module on Cloud Computing. He was a lecturer and supervisor of master’s students at CCT College Dublin.
The most common way to share research findings is through publications at professional venues like IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, etc., and more in well-known conferences such as INFOCOM, ICNP, ICPP, LCN, ICPADS, GLOBECOM, etc. Since 2020, he has published in all mentioned venues as a first author. Moreover, he is also a reviewer for some prestigious conferences and journals, such as IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (JSAC), IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management (IEEE TNSM), Computer Magazine IEEE, Computer Networks, Computer Communications, Globecom, etc. “
