At the 2024 Trinity Innovation Awards, hosted by Trinity Innovation & Enterprise, Associate Professor Tim Persoons from the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering was recognised in the ‘Ones to Watch’ category. This award celebrates emerging entrepreneurial academics whose research has the potential to lead to the next campus company, commercial licence deal, or industry engagement.

Professor Persoons, a researcher with the CONNECT Centre, focuses on multiscale convective heat transfer in electronics thermal management. His recognition stems from a collaborative project with a major Japanese automobile company, exploring motor cooling strategies for electric aircraft applications. This work addresses challenges in thermal efficiency and sustainability, aiming to enhance the performance and reliability of next-generation electric aircraft.

With a strong track record of engaging with SMEs and multinational companies, Professor Persoons’ work demonstrates the impact of academic-industry collaboration in tackling real-world challenges.

Congratulations to CONNECT Researchers

Other CONNECT-affiliated researchers were also celebrated at the event for their impactful contributions outside the CONNECT Centre’s research:

  • Professor Brian Caulfield from the School of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering received the Trinity Impact Award for his leadership in sustainable transportation.
  • The inaugural Learnovate Innovation in Research Award was presented to Co-PIs Associate Professor Ann Devitt along with colleagues from the School of Education for their work on the UDL-BOE Project.

Congratulations to all awardees for their contributions to innovative research.
