The CONNECT Centre is delighted to announce the launch of the ENSURE-6G project, a pioneering initiative aimed at revolutionising security and privacy for Beyond 5G (B5G) and 6G networks.
Coordinated by UCD NetsLab, this ambitious project is funded under the HORIZON-MSCA-2023-SE-01 programme with a total budget of €1,577,800.
Project Overview
ENSURE-6G is a 48-month initiative that brings together 15 international partners from Europe, Asia, and South America, including two CONNECT partner institutions, UCD and TCD. The project’s core objective is to design, implement, validate, and prototype cutting-edge security and privacy solutions to mitigate the risks of both physical and cyber attacks in next-generation communication networks.
Key highlights of the project include:
- Funding: €1,577,800 under the HORIZON-MSCA-2023-SE-01 programme.
- Partners: 15 institutions across Europe, Asia, and South America.
- Duration: 48 months (commencing January 2025).
- Focus Areas: Prevention, detection, response, and mitigation of network hazards.
The project emphasises the need for robust solutions to address emerging threats while fostering global collaboration between academia and industry.
Objectives and Impact
ENSURE-6G aims to:
- Develop advanced security and privacy measures tailored to the unique requirements of B5G and 6G networks.
- Enhance the resilience of network infrastructures to safeguard users and connected devices.
- Equip researchers and engineers with expertise in addressing the security challenges of next-generation technologies.
- Ensure Europe remains a leader in 6G security and privacy innovation.
A Collaborative Effort
Commenting on the launch, Associate Professor Madhusanka Liyanage, Director of UCD NetsLab and the Coordinator of ENSURE-6G, stated:
“ENSURE-6G represents a crucial step in developing secure and privacy-preserving communication systems for the future. By addressing both cyber and physical threats, this project ensures a safer adoption of 6G technologies globally.”
The collaboration includes leading academic and industry partners in the 6G security and privacy domain. The project will also explore applications in diverse areas, including autonomous vehicles, drones, healthcare, and industrial automation.
CONNECT Centre Participation
Both UCD NetsLab and Trinity College Dublin, key partners of the CONNECT Centre, are at the forefront of this groundbreaking initiative. As a Research Ireland Centre, CONNECT plays a pivotal role in advancing telecommunications innovation and fostering collaborations that deliver tangible societal benefits.
Professor Dan Kilper, Director of the CONNECT Centre, commented:
