Over 160 people met CONNECT researchers and learned about their work during Culture Night Cork on Friday, 22 September, at Tyndall National Institute.
Members of the public learned about research in the areas of electronics and photonics (the science of light) while an exhibition of artwork by Angela Gilmour and Johnny Bugler demonstrated how science and art can work together.
Tyndall’s state-of-the-art fabrication laboratories, where silicon wafers and microchips are produced, were also on show for the occasion with visitors able to dress as fabrication researchers and learn about clean room technology.
Blackrock Castle’s portable planetarium was also present allowing an exploration of the solar system and the Milky Way galaxy. Tyndall houses is home to the ESA Space Solutions Centre Ireland.
CONNECT Investigators Prof. Cian Ó Mathúna and Dr Aidan Quinn gave short presentation on their work while several CONNECT researchers (Lizy Abraham, Sanjeev Kumar, Aidan Murphy, Brendan O’Flynn, Salvatore Tedesco, Marius Wilk) organised interactive demos.
